Last week I was on my way down the 1/4 mile hill to get to my bus stop, and I was going to be right on time for the scheduled stop. The bus came early, and I was still a good 200 feet away as it pulled up. I started running, and when I was about 20 feet away the bus started to pull away...I stopped in disappointment and began to walk when all of a sudden the bus driver honked and gestured to the parking lot he would be going through next...he pulled into the lot and waited for me to cross the street and picked me up, even though he was perfectly within his right to keep driving. I was in a good mood the rest of the day thanks to his kind gesture.

I've always been a bit on the heavier side, and I always thought it was because of my weight that no guy had ever shown any interest in me. I met my current (and first) boyfriend a little over a year ago, and we started dating shortly after we met. He started writing me notes almost immediately, and he always signed them, "Stay beautiful, Beautiful." I carried them with me wherever I went for weeks, and I now have them safely stored in my jewelry box because it still makes me smile every time I read one of them.

A few years ago, I was on a field trip to New York, and I felt simply awful seeing homeless people. One in particular looked very depressed and I bought him a large pizza with breadsticks and a two liter bottle of soda. He called me an angel.

9 years ago I was at an amusement park with my parents, playing those arcade games that give tickets, that you can trade for prizes. While I was playing, these 2 girls, who would have been about 15, came up to me and gave me close to 100 tickets. They had played the games for fun, and didn't need the prizes. I doubt they remember doing this, but at 16, I still remember it =)

Tonight I was leaving Wal-Mart with my mom and we saw a man trying to push two carts. My mom offered for me to take his other cart for him. I was glad for the reminder to help someone out. Then in the car on the way home she said we'd started a chain and that man would go do something for someone else. I hope so.

Lately I have been making nice notes for my older sisters and putting them in their lunchbox. My sisters, whom I rarely get along with, told me they loved them. I will make them everyday for the rest of the school year. I'm glad I can do this for them.

My friend has always been picked on by her high school peers because she always hangs out with the guys and is always mistaken for one. She's like this because her mom left the family and was raised by her dad. We all got together and took her out to do girly things. We took her to the spa (only some were brave enough to join) and out shopping before watching chick flicks. We're seventeen year old boys, and she never looked prettier and happier.

Instead of exchanging gifts with each other, each year at Christmas my cheerleading squad chooses a family in need to adopt. We bring every member of the family gifts of pleasure and the essentials such as soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, etc. One of my male cheer coaches will dress up as Santa and the other coaches dress up as elves and deliver the gifts! The smile of the people we help gives us the most wonderful feeling in the world!

I worked in South Africa for a few weeks two summers ago. One day on my lunch break I saw a man sitting on the side of the road, clearly too weak to move. I sat down next to him and we talked - it turns out he was in the final throws of AIDS. Because of superstition and lack of education, he'd been abandoned by his family and friends. He sat there with tears in his eyes, overwhelmed that a well off white boy would take the time to sit and talk to him. When I came back with a meal for him and a bottle of water he weeped - it was the fist food he'd eaten in days, and the only charity he'd received in weeks. A few days later he was found dead on the side of that same road, holding a sign that simply said "Hope".
