For my boyfriend's birthday, I'm making him miniature envelopes, with notecards inside, telling him what a great person he is. I'm really hoping I have enough time to make all 87 :)

My mom and I weren't getting along very well since we were both so stressed and tired from work or school. I felt bad about this because we used to be really close. So one morning I bought a card and some flowers and left early to bring them to her at work before I went to school. It made her cry.

Last week I was on my way down the 1/4 mile hill to get to my bus stop, and I was going to be right on time for the scheduled stop. The bus came early, and I was still a good 200 feet away as it pulled up. I started running, and when I was about 20 feet away the bus started to pull away...I stopped in disappointment and began to walk when all of a sudden the bus driver honked and gestured to the parking lot he would be going through next...he pulled into the lot and waited for me to cross the street and picked me up, even though he was perfectly within his right to keep driving. I was in a good mood the rest of the day thanks to his kind gesture.

9 years ago I was at an amusement park with my parents, playing those arcade games that give tickets, that you can trade for prizes. While I was playing, these 2 girls, who would have been about 15, came up to me and gave me close to 100 tickets. They had played the games for fun, and didn't need the prizes. I doubt they remember doing this, but at 16, I still remember it =)

I worked in South Africa for a few weeks two summers ago. One day on my lunch break I saw a man sitting on the side of the road, clearly too weak to move. I sat down next to him and we talked - it turns out he was in the final throws of AIDS. Because of superstition and lack of education, he'd been abandoned by his family and friends. He sat there with tears in his eyes, overwhelmed that a well off white boy would take the time to sit and talk to him. When I came back with a meal for him and a bottle of water he weeped - it was the fist food he'd eaten in days, and the only charity he'd received in weeks. A few days later he was found dead on the side of that same road, holding a sign that simply said "Hope".

I went on holiday to Florida this summer. I got to feed the dolphins at Sea World. The two behinds me didn't have enough money to buy fish for both of them, so I gave them a dollar or two to make it up to what they needed. It almost made me feel better than feeling the dolphins did.

In South Africa to see people begging along intersections is all too common. I came across a middle aged man with a sign, saying he needed help. For a week I drove past and handed him a hot lunch and a coke. That weekend whilst doing my own grocery shopping, he came to mind and I popped a few things in the trolley for him. I drove past and handed over two full grocery bags, he had tears in his eyes. A few days later he told me he found some part-time work in another part of town and he might never see me again. I think its not what we do that helps, I think its the fact that we notice them and offer whatever help we can.

I was walking down a local city street when I saw a young boy crying. He had fallen off his bike and was hurt. There were a couple of male adults near by, but not one of them turned or even registered to the boy's cry. I stopped and asked him if his family was near by and then walked down to get his brother. I waited to make sure that they both got to their house safely.

I am currently unemployed and on a job search, I was picking up a few groceries at a local Sams, and I saw a gentleman that was holding a sign will work for food, I drove past him and backed up crying and gave him the last 10.00 dollars I had in my wallet. I felt much better.......and strangely enough I had enough food for myself that week.

I decided that I wanted to do something to pay it forward, so I got online to the local homeless mission here in our city and set up a date that myself and my 3 kids could fix and serve a meal to the women and children. I told some people at work about it and they all got involved donating food and helping. I really wanted my kids to see what life was like outside their nice suburban setting, as well as to show them how good it feels to give. It was a lot of fun, and now we have committed to doing it once a month.
